Description
Peter and Wendy by J. M. Barrie. Published by Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1911.

An early October 1911 printing of Barrie’s enduring classic, published in the same month as the book’s first appearance. The edition page states that the first, second, and third editions were all printed in October 1911, indicating this copy is a third edition. These earliest printings are highly sought after by collectors, as they closely resemble the first edition and were issued during the book’s initial month of publication.

Originally developed from Barrie’s famous stage play Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up, Peter and Wendy introduced generations of readers to Peter Pan, Wendy Darling, Tinker Bell, Captain Hook, and the magical world of Neverland. More than a century after publication, it remains one of the most influential and beloved works of children’s literature ever written.
Published by Hodder & Stoughton and illustrated by F. D. Bedford, this copy retains all of its illustrated plates. Six of the illustrated plates have become detached from the binding but remain present and included with the book. There is foxing throughout, moderate wear to the binding, bumping to the corners, and a split between the front pastedown and endpaper extending a little over halfway up the hinge. The exterior binding remains intact, with the decorative cover design and lettering still presenting attractively.
