Les Misérables by Victor Hugo
Full black cloth hardcover with dust jacket. This edition is undated, but circa 1920s (as recorded by OCLC), publisher’s emblem blindstamped to front board. Light white splatters on the spine of binding, and wear to cloth binding. All pages inside are secure and unmarked other than a mysterious annotation about who this book belonged to and who it was “possibly given by” which is crossed out.
An abridged edition that eliminates much of the ‘special political pleading, obscure and local history and such matters which were important to the day when the book was written but are no longer so in the urgency of our present years’. 585pp., two-page frontispiece plus ten additional full-page colour plate illustrations by Mead Schaeffer. Size: 8vo – 8″ – 9″ Tall.
