There are certain objects that seem to belong with books. Not because they were made for books, necessarily, but because they live well among them — on shelves, desks, and reading tables, quietly sharing space with the stories we keep.
Today I’m introducing a new category on my website: Bookends & Shelf Décor.
This is a curated space for sculptural, functional pieces that sit naturally alongside books. Objects with presence. Objects that hold, support, frame, or simply accompany the act of reading.
In the video above, I share the first piece in this new category — a one-of-a-kind cast-iron motorcycle that works beautifully as a bookend. Finished in white with gold detailing and freely rotating wheels, it was never originally manufactured as a bookend, yet its weight, balance, and form make it perfectly suited to the role. It’s both functional and quietly expressive — the kind of piece that feels at home on a shelf.

Because this is the very first item in the category, the collection is still small. And that’s intentional. This space will grow slowly, with objects chosen for their character, material, and relationship to books — not mass décor, but pieces that feel considered.

As with everything at Ash Tree Books, this category is guided by a love of objects that carry presence — things that live well in quiet spaces, alongside the stories we choose to keep.
