Sometimes curiosity takes the lead. ✨
For a while now, my youngest daughter, Mayleah has been asking if she could try drilling on the little rock set I gave her. She finally got her chance, and I was right there to guide her through it. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to make runes like I do, or just carve for the fun of it — but either way, it was such a joy to watch her explore something new with her own hands.
I filmed the experience and paused along the way to explain what was happening. We didn’t get to the final step of placing pigment into the carving — that part takes more time and patience, and this was May’s very first attempt. What mattered most wasn’t finishing the piece, but simply being present with the process.

As I watched her lean into her curiosity, I couldn’t help but remember my own beginnings with carving. There’s something about holding a stone, listening to it, and learning how it wants to be worked with that sparks both patience and creativity. Sharing that with May felt like passing along a small piece of my own journey.
It was less about the outcome and more about the experience — the spark in her eyes, the rhythm of discovery, and the quiet joy of creating together. 🌿
Here’s the video of Mayleah’s first rock carving adventure:
