This 1979 first paperback edition of Owls by Tony Angell, published by Washington University Press, offers a wonderful look at eighteen species of North American owls. The book includes beautiful drawings and descriptions of each species, some of which are accompanied by images of their prey, giving a unique perspective on these fascinating birds.

 

 

Tony Angell, born in 1940, is a well-known artist and author, celebrated for his work focusing on nature. His passion for birds, especially owls, is evident in this book, which remains a cherished resource for bird lovers and art collectors alike.

Along with the book, I’m including a print of a screech owl by an artist from Tofino, BC. The print has earthy tones and captures the spirit of the owl, complementing the illustrations in the book. It’s a piece I purchased at a local market in Tofino a few years ago, and though unsigned, it pairs nicely with the book’s theme of celebrating owls in all their forms.
