About the Author:

Edward McCourt is one of the most prolific and yet unrecognized of Canadian writers. Brought up on an Alberta homestead and a professor of English Literature at the University of Saskatchewan from 1944 until his death in 1972, he recorded over a period of thirty years his particular vision of the prairies, the region of Canada which had irrevocably shaped his own life.

Born in 1907 in Mullinger, Ireland and came to Canada with his family in 1909. He grew up near Kitscoty, Alberta and studied English literature at the University of Alberta. In 1937, he earned an M.A. from Oxford which he attended as a Rhodes scholar. McCourt taught at the University of New Brunswick, Queen’s University, and the University of Saskatoon.
