Description
Lives of the Hunted by Ernest Thompson Seton
First Edition, Third Impression (1902)
Published by David Nutt, London
This early edition of Lives of the Hunted is a beautifully illustrated work dedicated to the preservation of wildlife. It features over 200 of Seton’s own drawings, including numerous full-page black-and-white illustrations and smaller illustrations scattered throughout the margins. These images bring the true accounts of five quadrupeds and three birds to life, capturing Seton’s deep passion for wildlife.
The 360 pages remain securely attached to the hinge, with an uncut textblock. The front panel and spine are adorned with gold gilt lettering, still striking despite the book’s age. There is a full seam split between the front pastedown and endpaper, but otherwise, the book is in very good condition for a volume over 120 years old. A previous owner’s gift annotation appears on the front free paper.
